Axillary clearance or axillary dissection is a surgery to remove all the lymph nodes from the armpit on the same side as the breast cancer. Axillary clearance is a very effective procedure to evaluate and check the spread of cancer. Since all or most of the lymph nodes are removed, the chances of cancer returning is significantly reduced.
